| Hidalgo named PRC 2006 Outstanding Professional of the year ___________________ |

| Pasig City (14 June) - The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), the government agency responsible for the licensing and regulation of the country's professionals, will be conferring upon Department of Education OIC Secretary Fe A. Hidalgo the honor being this year's Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Teacher Education during awarding ceremonies later this month. The Outstanding Professional of the Year Award is the highest award given by the PRC to a professional for having demonstrated exceptional professional competence and integrity in the practice of one's profession as recommended by one's peers, and contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession and to the effective discharge of the profession's social responsibility through meaningful participation in socio-civic related activities. Dr. Hidalgo's career in education dates back to the 1950's, where she began as a teacher in her native province of Batanes. She gradually rose from the ranks: from being a teacher in 1956 to being an Educational Researcher at the University of the Philippines in 1975 and under the Department of Education, as Technical Assistant to the Undersecretary for Programs and Projects in 1986, Director of the National Educators' Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) in 1994, Assistant Secretary for Programs, Projects & Regional Operations in 1998, and as Undersecretary for Programs and Projects in 2001. She pursued her Master of Arts Degree in Education and her Doctorate in Philosophy at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia under a scholarship grant in 1974 and 1986, respectively. She has published several books on Values Education, and is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Philippine Normal University Outstanding Alumni in Government Service and the National Award for Outstanding Values Educator (both given in 1999).
