| An Asian Spirit plane from Batanes made an emergency landing at the Manila Domestic Airport Tuesday after encountering what appeared to be a problem with its landing gear. An Asian Spirit official who declined to identify himself said the pilot alerted air traffic controllers as a precautionary measure to ensure that the plane will be given extra attention in case of an emergency. The plane came from Batanes and was carrying 21 passengers and four crew members. It landed safely at 2:04 p.m. ____________________________________________________________________ Last updated 07:06pm (Mla time) 01/16/2007 By Nikko Dizzon Inquirer Plane lands safely after losing tire An Asian Spirit plane landed safely at the domestic runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Tuesday afternoon minus one tire, which it lost while taking off from Basco, Batanes. None of the 21 passengers, two pilots, and two flight attendants was injured during the emergency landing, according to airport officials. A report from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that on reaching Manila, Captain Romulo Villanueva, pilot of flight 6K 123, requested to make a low pass so the tower could check if the plane's nose landing gear was fully extended. The tower confirmed the landing gear was fully extended but had only one tire, prompting the pilot to request for "emergency plan number 2" for landing on runway 13-31. The MIAA report quoted the pilot as saying the Basco control tower had advised him that the left nose wheel tire of the aircraft (RP-C2786) had fallen upon takeoff at noon The aircraft, a British Aerospace-Advanced Turbo Prop, landed at 2 pm. It was towed off the runway 45 minutes later after the missing tire was replaced. The airport authority said the incident did not cause any flight delays. |
