Toronto - Asian Spirit, the country's fourth flag carrier (it received its congressional franchise in January 2002) has launched its revised Manila-Tuguegarao-Basco flight frequency. It also has a twice weekly (Monday and Friday) Manila-Basco direct flight. The airliner will use its BAe ATP (Advanced Turboprop) for these flights. Asian Spirit has been flying to Batanes in the past 3 years. Asian Spirit operates a fleet of aircrafts that include: BAe ATP - The 70-seater Advanced Turboprop (ATP) aircraft was manufactured by British Aerospace Systems. It first flew on August 6, 1986, while the first production aircraft flew in February 1988. It is powered by Pratt and Whitney Canada (PW 126) advanced turboprops, driving six-bladed low revving propellers that deliver a quiet jet-speed performance. See: BAe ATP DHC-7 - The 48-seater De Havilland Dash 7 aircraft is a high wing monoplane manufactured by De Havilland of Canada in Toronto (Downsview). It first flew on March 27, 1975 and remained in production until DHC was purchased by Boeing in 1988. The aircraft is powered by four (4) Pratt and Whitney turbo-prop engines, mode PT6A-50, each engine packing 1120 horsepower. The Dash 7 was designed for short take-off and landing and can operate from a minimum of 600-meter runway. The aircraft is certified for day and night, all-weather condition flying. [Bombardier Aerospace of Montreal purchased DHC from Boeing in 1992 and the Dash 8 that succeeded was renamed Q Series.] See: DHC-8 Q Series BAe 146 Life Extension Programme A Life Extension Programme for the BAe 146 was introduced that will enable the aircraft to continue operations for at least another 20 years. A sustained programme of investment and analysis of the past 20 years of actual aircraft operations has led to improved maintenance programmes that validate continued operation. The result is the introduction of two new manuals, one covering corrosion - the Corrosion Protection and Control programme (CPCP), and one covering fatigue - the Supplementary Structural Inspections Document (SSID). The CPCP is invoked when a particular airframe reaches 20 calendar years and introduces an indefinite calendar life. The SSID is introduced when a particular airframe reaches 40,000-50,000 cycles (weight and variant dependant). The life is extended to 60,000 cycles immediately and will be further extended to 80,000 cycles shortly. The Systems Life Extension work for both the BAe 146 And Avro RJ is also complete. All BAe 146 and RJ systems (5,500 individual components) have been analysed in collaboration with major equipment suppliers and the civil aviation authority. The result is that with the exception of a few parts the life of all components has been de-limited. __________________________________________________________ - vbc, April 2006
CN-235 - The aircraft is a high wing monoplane manufactured by IPTN (Indonesia). The first production aircraft made its initial flight on August 19, 1986. Engine power is manufactured and modelled by General Electric CT79 C and propeller manufactured and modelled by Hamilton Standard 14RF-21. The aircraft is specifically designed for short take-off and landing. It is also capable and certified to operate on all-weather, day/night operation.
The airliner also started its Manila-Laoag flight using its 100-seater BAe 146-100 jet aircraft. The air carrier will be flying four times weekly from Manila (TU/TH/FR/SU). Asian Spirit flies to major tourism destinations and routes not served by other carriers. The destinations are popularly known as "missionary routes" or "unprofitable routes." Today these routes have progressed and continue to register increases in commuter passengers. The air carrier is operated by the Airline Employees Cooperative (AEC) established in 1995.
BAe 146-100 - The 70/84-100 seater British Aerospace (BAe) 146 regional jetliner was manufactured by British Aerospace Systems. Its first flight occurred in September 1981 with deliveries commencing in 1983. The aircraft is powered by 4 Honeywell ALF 502 turbofan engines. It has the best short take-off and landing capability and requires only 1,100 meters of runway. The BAe 146 is certified and capable to operate in all-weather, day and night operations. A total of 221 BAe 146s were built between 1983 and 1993 when it was succeeded by the Avro RJ Series. See: BAe 146
