The Barangays - Around one in two Isantoninos or 52% of the population live in the town proper of Uyugan that comprises the barangays of Kayuganan and Kayvaluganan. More than a third or 38% of the population live in the barangay of Itbud. Imnajbu, the second smallest barangay in terms of population in all of Batanes, is home to 10% of the population or one in ten Isantoninos. Median Age - In 1995, the median age in Uyugan was 22.5 years. Because of a
higher life expectancy, the median age of Uyugan women was greater than that of Uyugan men by 2.4 years, 23.8 years and 21.4 years, respectively.
Age Structure - While the median age shows the aging of the population, a more detailed picture may be obtained by looking at age groups. A useful breakdown distinguishes between persons aged under 15 (children), those 15-64 (working age population) and those 65 and over (elderly). In 1995, children accounted for 32.1% of the total population of Uyugan compared to 37.8 for Batanes. Working age population accounted for 60.1% while the proportion of persons aged 65 and over was 7.8%.
A greater proportion of women than of men were aged 65 and over, 8.6% and 7.0%, respectively. The major difference between the figures for men and women in this age group was primarily because of higher male mortality. Dependency Ratio - The various dependency ratios (for children, for the aged, and the total ratio) also serve as useful indicators since they provide information on the economic burden that is borne by the adult population. Uyugan's total dependency ratio (ratio of the sum of those aged 0-14 and those 65 and over to those 15-64) was 66.5% in 1995. A breakdown of the total dependency ratio shows that the child dependency ratio was 53.4% and the elderly was 13%. Sex Ratio - In 1995, Uyugan's sex ratio (number of males per 100 females) was 102.1% compared to 102.6 for Batanes. On the masculinity ratio of the elderly, Uyugan has 83.5% compared to 79% for Batanes. Marital Status - In 1995, the proportion of single people was 58% and constituted the largest proportion of the population. The percentage of married people and widowed persons was 35.9% and 5.8%, respectively. As of the 1995 Census, there was one separated/divorced person in Uyugan.
